P.O.D World: People of Devon

Well lookey here! I'm Holli and I'm covering sleepy Ottery St Mary for P.O.D World! I guess my responsibilty is to prove to the world we're not as boring as we seem at first glance!

I'm passionate about music, photography, art and writing. I love me a good Costa and spending time with friends!

Like my fellow PODs I'm a journalism student and I love it! Student life is hectic but so worth it! I'm looking forward to finishing my course but I'm also glad I have a beautiful, quiet town like Ottery St Mary to return to! You don't know how much you miss something until you come back to it!

Ottery St Mary: What's Your Appeal?

Many name Ottery St Mary boring and various other names but you can't deny it has some sort of charm. Something about it draws the townfolk in and we all (even in secret) are just a little bit in love with quiet Ottery St Mary. So what is it about this town that we all come to grow undeniably fond of? I've been out into Ottery to find out what you love about it!

  • The strong sense of community:

Yep. Loads of you commented on how you like the community feel that Ottery St Mary gives off. Everyone seems to know everyone and it's very unlikely that you won't find a friendly, helpful face.

  • Sainsburys:

How could we not love Sainsburys? We've all had that moment when we're sat and the conversation goes along the lines of “Bored.” “Me too.” “Sainburys?” “Yeah okay.” And that's it. We're off to get cans of coke and pizza. Those pizzas may be bad for our waistline but we all love them!

  • The rural surroundings:

Many of you have admitted a love for Canaan Park, East Hill and The Millenium Green plus the surrounding fields. Beautiful locations for dog walking, romantic walks, photography and then some. There's no denying this town's countryside charm and now with the new bridge located just off of Canaan Park, there's even more gorgeous scenery to see.

  • The unique celebrations:

Where else will you find people who celebrate the day pixies escape a cave or run around with flaming barrels of tar on their backs? These two days are perhaps Ottery's pride and joy given that so many of you guys love it! And what's not to love? Excitement, crowds and celebration!

  • Beautiful Days:

This music festival's just down the road and the majority of you guys love it! And why shouldn't you? An awesome festival literally on your doorsteps' and even if you don't manage to get a ticket, you can hear it all for free from home!
